This is my Linfoot family. Jane Richardson Linfoot b. abt 1777 with
her daughter Dinah Linfoot and son John Richardson Linfoot came to
America, Upper Canada, in the 1830's. Dinah Linfoot Kirton's first
children were born at Hamilton. Jane Richardson Linfoot and her two
children, Dinah Linfoot Kirton and John Richarson Linfoot, moved to
Iowa about 1843.

NOTES:

Thomas Kirton was born in Yorkshire, England, came to Canada, where he
resided five years, from thence to Illinois and from thence to Clay
township in Marion County, IA in 1843 and from there to Dallas
township in the same county in the spring of 1848. He purchased a
claim where he now lives in the north part of Dallas township, of an
individual named Geo. Leach, an adventurer of some notoriety in this
part of the country at that time, and suspected of being a horse
thief("Pioneers of Marion County, Iowa general history of the county",
1872, by Wm. M. Donnel, p.340).

NOTES: John Linfoot, was one of the early pioneers, being a boot and
shoemaker, from Liverpool, England. Among his early customers was the
first governor of Iowa, making him a pair of fancy boots, also other
footwear (Philo Richardson Linfoot obituary, Knoxville, Iowa Journal,
21 Apr 1915).
