Pfc. Steven F. Sirko, 20, of Portage (Indiana) died Sunday of non-combat related injuries in Muqdadiyah, Iraq.
He served in the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division out of Fort Benning, Ga.
He leaves behind his wife Virginia, three sisters, a brother, two stepbrothers, his mother, Linda Lipford (and her husband Steve Lipford) of North Carolina, and his father, Rick Sirko of Portage, Indiana.
Sirko's body was flown to Statesville, N.C., on Thursday, where he spent most of his childhood.
Nicholson Funeral Home of Statesville is handling the arrangements for his funeral and burial there.

(Steven was a medic. His wife was also serving in Iraq.)
