born 1827-1828 in Abbeville District, South Carolina; died May 19, 1903 in
Denison, Texas (according to the Graves Family Association); married Jackson
Lindsey about 1845 in Abbeville District, South Carolina. The marriage is
recorded in the records of Ninety-Six and Abbeville Districts in South
Carolina 1774-1890. Jackson was born in South Carolina in 1825, according
to an 1850 census in St. Clair County, Alabama. He died about 1860 in St.
Clair County, Alabama. Jackson Lindsay was listed in the Confederate
Infantry, 11th Regiment, Alabama Infantry. Mary Susan is listed as Mary
Susan Scruggs Lipford in the Graves Family Association:

worked in a CSA shoe factory in Bankston, MS where he met and married Nancy
Ellen Lindsey in 1863. Family lived in Watervalley, Miss. until 1882, then
moved to Marshall, Texas and then to Denison, Texas in 1888. (Source:

G. Allen N. Lipford, son of Edward Lipford and Eleanor P. Pettus, was born
about 1832 in Abbeville District, South Carolina; died about 12 July 1862 in
Summerville, South Carolina, during the Civil War; married Mary A. Smith
before 1854. Allen enlisted December 29, 1861, in Company A, 3rd
Battalion, Infantry Regiment, South Carolina. He was described as having
blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, five feet ten inches high and by
occupation a Farmer. Allen died of Typhoid Fever 12-14 July 1862 in a
hospital in Summerville, South Carolina.

born 1831-1837 in Abbeville District, South Carolina; died after 1880 in
Marshall County, Mississippi; married Barach Lindsey December 17, 1851 in
St. Clair, Alabama.

Barach Lindsey was born about 1829 SC, and died 1870-1880.

On Nov. 3, 1848 a petition of Frances E. Lipford sheweth that she is a
minor about ... yrs. and is desirous to remove to Sinclair Co., Ala. with
her sister, Mary Lindsay.

On January 5, 1849 Chas. A. Cobb became guardian of Frances.

A petition dated Sept. 28, 1852: Know that we Barach Lindsay and his
wife Frances E. Lindsay, late Frances E. Lipford, do appoint Abner P. Jones
St. Clair Co. Ala. our Atty. to get what is due us from the estate of Edward
Lipford decd. of Abbeville Dist. S.C.

The Graves Family Association reports that Frances married (2) W. H.
Williams 11 June 1892 in Conway County, Arkansas and was listed with her son
Jackson in the 1900 census of that county.

Frances first moved to St. Clair County, Alabama, then to Pontotoc,
Mississippi, and later to Marshall County, Mississippi, which is where most
of the family still reside today. Her last surviving grandchild William
Thomas Mills died on June 14, 1997 at the age of 97 years. Today her
descendants number in the several hundreds spanning 5 living generations!
William's mother Emmaline Cotilda Lindsay Mills told her family that one of
their descendants is a full blooded Cherokee Indian (in either the Lipford
