I have to agree 100% with you about LAGS and Balzekas. For those who want to
know what the free "look-up" was-it is basically what David does for the people
on the list-Vanagas's DICTIONARY OF SURNAMES. If you think they can help you get
info from the Archives in Vilnius, sorry it will never happen. You will only be
giving away your money to a _for_profit genealogical society. The regional NARA
is 1 mile South of the museum and I am not sure if they know that even exists.
If you do visit in Chicago, I would say go and see the museum. They do have some
wonderful collections on display. But I would also advise you to visit the
Lithuanian World Center in Lemont, IL. Have a meal at one of the wonderful
Lithuanian restaurants that still remain on 71st Street, stop in Racine Bakery
on Archer Ave for some authentic baked goods and if you still want to read
something subscribe to Lithuanian Heritage Magazine. I have no affiliation with
any of these places - I am just one of those people who grew up in the area and
still return often.
