You wonder what the staple was before spuds.. I think what was so appealing
about the potatoes was that they "kept" so well through the winter months and
that there was little waste. Raising, harvesting and storing grains was a
tedious and there was a lot of the wheat husk that was unusable. ! Just my
two cents in the rambling!
