Les... I think that if the family was originally from Tilsit that it is a
Lithuanian name. It certainly isn't German and it isn't likely that Germans
would change their name especially in a multi-ethnic city like Lvov which was
also known as Lemburg. Jogaila (Lithuanian?) became Jagiello (Polish)..
right?...Maybe you can look in the Lithuanian phone directory and find some
"B" surname that looks like it might have been the derivative for Burbello..
This topic might make for some fun guesses.. like...f'r instance....ummm >>>>
Birbelis... is that a good Lithuanian name or what? ??? Vytautas Birbelis!
... Birbti means to play a flute.. perhaps this is a family of floutists!!!
