Hi DJ,
Since I haven't seen an answer yet to this yet, I'll give it a try.
I'm still looking for the article that explains it. Here is half of
the answer.
Most true Lithuanian names are short, like Bulota, Zygas, Balta. When
they were Polinized, one of the ending that was added was owski, When
owski was Lithuanianized it became auskas. There are a lot of auskas
endings also. The story for vicius is similar, but I'm trying to find
the conversion steps. I'll post it when I do.

I just received certificates from the Lithuanian Historical Archives and
noticed most of the names listed ended in "vicius". Can anyone tell me why
this ending is used? Is it a formal way to end a last name?
Thanks for the help.
DJ
