In researching my paternal gf (born in 1876, immigrated through Ellis Island
in 1896), I've come across several records (marriage license, naturalization
papers, sibling birth certificates, etc.) that list Russia Lithuania as his
place of birth. At first, I figured that this was just a duplication of the
two countries, rather than an factual listing of his birthplace in Lithuania.

On a hunch, I searched ShtetlSeeker, and it lists a town named Rusiai, nw of
Vilnius, as a Lithuanian town. Is it safe to assume that this is actually his
birthplace (family verbal history always said that our family was from
Kaunas), or is it just wishful thinging on my part. Any help would be
appreciated.

Mike
