German form of the Biblical name Israel.

Strashinsky is a locational form, identified by Beider as associated with
the districts of Pinsk and Elisavetgrad (Kherson, in the Ukraine). It is
thought to derive from the hamlet of Streshin in the district of Rogachev
[Mogilev].
