Ireland?
I have no idea how a picture of a Scottish noblemen with no obvious Irish connections may have ended up in Ireland. My knowledge of the family since Mungo Murray is pretty sound. I am pretty sure we have never had an Irish connection? We haven't married into an Irish family.
The portrait - if it exists - could have been sold? But i doubt it.
It may have been given as a gift to someone with Irish property?
If you could get a picture i would be most grateful but the name of the castle in Ireland would be useful.
The problem is that Mungo Murray is a popular Scottish name - in fact one of the most important pictures in Scotland is of Lord Mungo Murray the son of the first Marquess of Atholl. It is in the National Galleries of Scotland.
