Subject: [LOCKE-L] Richard LOCKE mystery entry
Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 22:20:55 EDT

I have been searching for the names of the other 4 sons of Richard Lock and
his wife Mary. They had a total of 8 sons that has been documented in several
sources. I also can't seem to locate the immigration info/birthplace of
Richard. ( One source says England.)
Here is the known bits of info from our family puzzle. Thanks, Kat

Richard LOCK was born about 1733 in ? Bristol, England.1 (b.ca1733
supposedly in England. info from ..Linda (Locke) Bock email: Okie112233)
He resided on 26 Aug 1768 in Hanover County, Virginia.5 Place of birth
noted as Hanover County Virginia for son Jacob. He died in 1775 in Berkeley
County, Virginia.6
(I have long suspected that this Richard may be a brother to my John Locke
b.ca.1726, but never have found anything to prove it. In Richards estate
settlement, there was money paid to a John Lock, and I am quite sure this was
to my John Locke or his son John , who lived near the Bullskin creek, south
of Charlestown, Wv. Also Richard only lived about10-15 miles from where my
ggg grandfather George Locke (son of John) Lived. I am also very sure that
George had a brother John who lived about 5 miles away from Georges farm
which was on the east side of the Opeckan creek, east of Brucetown, Va.
(about 10 miles from Charles Town, Wv). George and his wife Sarah Hiatt
Locke are buried on the old Locke farm there. George died in 1823. Part of
the old farm is still in the family. Info from Everett
Locke)

He was married to Mary ? FITZGERALD in United States. Richard Locke was
born in England, but what part is not at all known to the writer. He,
however, came to America when quite young, married and located on a farm in
Hanover county, Virginia, where he raised a large and respectable family.
Richard LOCK and Mary FITZGERALD had eight sons of whom William was killed by
the Indians in Kentucky. Jacob was the youngest.

Rev. Jacob LOCK(E) was born on 24 Aug 1768 in Hanover County, Virginia.
Elder Jacob Locke was born in Hanover County, Virginia, August 24th,A.D.
1768. The epitaph upon his tomb says he was born in 1767, but since the
records from which I quote are in Mr. Locke's own handwriting, I have
concluded that '68 is the correct date. He resided between 1789 and 1799 in
Mercer County, Kentucky. Info from book The Biography of Elder Jacob Locke
written by Elder James P. Brooks in1881.
He owned land in 1799 in Barren County, Kentucky.
