Just a note on one of the few LOCKE/LOCKE intermarriages. A descendant of
Meverall (or Meverill) LOCKE, John Donaldson LOCKE who was the son of John
Donaldson LOCKE, who was the son of Meverall LOCKE married Harriet LOCKE, a
descendant of William of Woburn, MA.
Harriet Locke, 43, born in Mass., Joseph, 9, born in Kentucky, and Lydia, 7
were enumerated in Division 1, Oldham County, Kentucky in 1850 (U.S. Census).
Enumerated with them were Jns. S. Coons, 38, a trader, Ann, 43, Fannie, 5,
and Saml, 55.
In 1860, Harriet, Joseph and Lydia G., were enumerated in LaGrange (post
office), Oldham, Kentucky (U.S. Census).
In 1870, Harriet, 62, her sisters Mary A., 60, and Frances C., 58, and
Harriet's daughter Lydia G., 27, were enumerated in Plymouth, Plymouth, Mass.
(U.S. Census).
John D.'s and Harriet's son Joseph Henry survived to adulthood:
In 1870 Joseph H. Locke, 29, a merchant, Fanny P., 29, and Morey P., 14 ,
Henry G., 7, born in Tenn. and Christina S., 2, born in Mass., were enumerated
in Ward 16, Boston, Suffolk, Mass. (U.S. Census).
In 1880 Joseph H. Locke, 39, born in Kentucky, parents born in Mass., was
enumerated in Englewood, Bergen, New Jersey with first wife Fanny, 38, born in
Mass., and children Hersey (Henry) G. (son), 16, born in Kentucky, daughters
Morey, 14, born in Kentucky, Chistina S., 12, born in Mass., and Harriet, 5,
born in Mass. (U.S. Census). Enumerated with them were his mother, Harriet,
73, born in Mass., and his sister Lydia G., 37, born in Kentucky.
Joseph H. Locke, born Feb 1841, in New York, was enumerated in District
773, Manhattan, New York, New York, in 1900 (U.S. Census). With him were his
second wife Hannah C., born March 1858 in New Jersey, and his daughters Fannie
M., born Sept. 1865 in Kentucky, Christine S., born Nov. 1867 in Mass., and
Harriet B., born Aug. 1875 in Mass. He was a clerk in a "Fid. & Gas Co."
One of those rare intersections...
