Francis,
Indeed, the Stationers' Co records are considered very valuable because
they cover the perioe about 1554 - 1920. I have researched them
extensively and have gleaned interesting information about my bookseller
and author ancestors. The period I am interested in is earlier so I can't
speak to the period you mentioned.
The records are very difficult and time consuming but fascinating. The
Mormon Church has photocopied them and one can download from their
computers a 4-page list of all the holdings and then order appropriate
films. There are about 15 libraries throughout the US who also have the
films. I got the list from the Guild's headquarters in London.
You can find apprentice records and all kinds of interesting things.
