Hi All,

There was a Period Drama on UK Television about six months to a year ago
which told a story about slavery in the UK before it was abolished. So
there could have been "Freemen" here after abolition, or before when a
slave was freed by a owner, due to feelings of guilt or as a reward for
service.

The story was based in Bristol around the late 1700s and it was about
certain Merchants who brought men and women to the UK from Africa to work
as servants.

I don't know how much of it was based on fact, perhaps someone else on the
list knows more.

Regards
