|Hi All,
|
|There was a Period Drama on UK Television about six months to a year ago
|which told a story about slavery in the UK before it was abolished. So
|there could have been "Freemen" here after abolition, or before when a
|slave was freed by a owner, due to feelings of guilt or as a reward for
|service.
|
|The story was based in Bristol around the late 1700s and it was about
|certain Merchants who brought men and women to the UK from Africa to work
|as servants.
|
|I don't know how much of it was based on fact, perhaps someone else on the
|list knows more.
|
|Regards
