London was increasing at a rate of knots every year, so there were
enormous numbers of small builders operating, all employing bricklayers.
Although many of them will appear in directories, they would not have
kept records nor would it be possible to say who worked for whom.
A very few operated by employing men from their own areas, so you
could guess that Fred Bloggs from Frippleton was employed by George
Smith from Frippleton - and you might be right, might not.
Brickies were also employed by railway builders, road builders, garden
landscapers, builders of halls, churches, bridges, viaducts etc etc
