Please send the following petition to <> and support
Canadianb Senator, The Hon. Lorna Milne, Senator, to get a petition going
so she will have added backing in her fight, on our
behalf, to obtain release of Post-1901 Canadian Census Records.

Forward, one page only, the following paragraph, complete with
YOUR personal comments, your city/town, families being researched
and the areas of Canada. Send to <> (Muriel

Family researchers, attempting to complete their family roots,
depend greatly on Canadian census records even though these are only
released at 10-year intervals. These records help the genealogist
research his/her ancestors to form a picture of the past. Since many
church denominations are sealing records, as well as the government
withholding the census, how are we able to learn our personal roots.
We are concerned over the prospect of not being permitted to gain
access to the 1911 and subsequent census records 92 years after the
taking of those censuses in accordance with the provisions in Section
6 of the Privacy Regulations.

WE do not need to know financial status or other personal data.
WE support the initiative of Senator Lorna Milne in introducing a Bill
in the Senate which would lead to the restoration of our rights to see all
census records.

Tourism is a major factor in genealogical research -- people want to
visit their roots.

(I added the following)

Historians now and more particularly, in the future, require statistics
obtained from the basic source of Canadian history - The Canadian Census.

My unborn great great grandchildren thank you in advance for your support
in putting some non-visionary Canadian politicians and beurocrats in their
place before the end of this century. If what they propose/are doing can
happen here, it can happen anywhere. If the "small a" authorities are
permitted to see this through to their desired end, Canada will become the
only developed country not releasing census data. What a standard.

Further, If any of you have your dander up please write some Canadian MP's
and Senators. Their e-mail addresses are at
<www.parl.gc.ca/36/sm-e.htm>.

I don't know if there is any point in writing Ambassadors but try if you
want to. Any pressure applied will help.

I've sent this alarm out befor to a number of lists and this is going to
the same places.

Thanks for your help.

Phil
