Hi Annette,

I had the same problem a while back and believe you are talking about 1861
street index (fiche 6026702).
As you mentioned it starts south of the river (Southwark) and miss all the
lower numbered Districts. Plus it was filmed sideways which makes things
difficult for the districts actually included.
I discovered another set of microfiche for the Street Index 1861 Census
England & Wales Vol. 1 - 16.
Fiche 6036787 through 6036802 inclusive (total of 21 fiche in the set) which
includes the lower numbered Districts and is filmed the correct way up. Some
of it is still hard to read.
I presume someone must have found the error and re-filmed it.

Don't know if you have the set of fiche I mentioned above at your LDS Family
History Centre. I ordered a set for my LDS Family History Centre a month ago
and they just arrived. They only cost 3.15 USD (15 cents a fiche) and will
remain permanently at the Centre. Microfiche seem to take longer to get than
film. Don't know how it works in NZ.

Under fiche 6036788 under District 13, Strand the following appears.

Church Street, Dean Street 1 - 19?part RG9/176 Folio 138-143
Missing from ED16 19?part - 38

Note: 19? could be 10 but I believe it is 19. Don't know if the Missing ED
means some of Church Street was not filmed!!!!!

I believe this is the correct Church Street you are looking for. It shows on
my A to Z of Victorian London Map but is now called Romilly Street and ends
at Dean Street in front of the St Anns Church, Soho (A to Z of Victorian
London Map spelling of Anne)

Romilly Street show just west of intersection of Shaftesbury Ave and Charing
Cross Road. The + at the end of the street is St Anne's Church.

Hope this helps. Please double check the info before ordering the film. I
was careful in copying the info but it always pays to recheck. The missing
ED statement concerns me after the Church Street entry.

If you see any TWIDDY/TWEEDY or ROSS while searching that area let me know.
I have a Joseph Coote/Coats TWIDDY marrying Matilda Elizabeth ROSS in St
Anne's Church, Soho on 20 Apr 1847.

Best of luck with your search.
