West Drayton is now part of the conurbo-glomeration of Hillingdon, a borough
on the west side of London, some 500 feet below the wheels of Heathrow-bound
jet planes. Other parts are Uxbridge, Hillingdon, Hayes, Harefield,
Ickenham... or as Londoners say: Huxbridge, Illingdon, Ayes, Arefield and
Hickenham...
The area still has charm in spite of its proximity. There is a marvellous
church of St Martin; and once there was a magnificent mansion, of which the
gatehouse remains. The mansion was pulled down in 1750, so perhaps your
ancestor got the demolition job together with the nickname?
Cheers
