Dear Dinah,

St. George Hanover Square is listed in the Society of Genealogists' booklet
on census indexes they hold (a very useful checklist even if you never go
to the SoG library). The actual census pieces are HO107/1475-1478, and
there is a microfiche index available, produced by the London and North
Middlesex FHS.

I am also 'plodding my way through the 1851 Census for London" but through
the indexes, having only realised this week how large a percentage of the
1851 London census is indexed. From your message, it appears that you are
actually going through the census entries. Please excuse me if I'm
'teaching my grandmother to suck eggs' but is there nowhere you can get
access to these indexes in or near California?

If you are interested in the indexes, I can give you more information.

HTH,

Jeff HUMM

Hello London Listers

I wonder if there is anyone out there who can help me with a problem which
arose yesterday at my local FHC. None of the staff there could help me, so
I wondered if anyone on the list has encountered the same problem and can
advise me.

I am slowly plodding my way through the 1851 Census for London, district by
district, trying to find William and Alice HARWOOD, my gg-grandparents.
Yesterday I struck out searching Chelsea, so I tried to find the Mormon
film references for St. George Hanover Square, to order them in as my next
area to comb. I searched the CD for the library catalogue, and the old
fiche catalogue as well, but could find no reference to census films for
this registration district. I tried "St.George Hanover Square, Middlesex,
England" and every other combination I could think of, but no luck.
However, when I looked on the 1881 census fiche, there was St. George
Hanover Square, so I know that it was filmed by the LDS in 1881, if at no
other time, so there should have been at least that entry for it, ....
unless I am looking under the wrong name?

Does anyone know what I should look under in the Mormon Library catalogue
to find the census records for St. George Hanover Square, in 1851??? I have
a map from the booklet "Lists of Londoners" which shows all the
registration districts as they were in 1851, and there it is all right, so
what has happened to the filmed census records in Salt Lake City, does
anyone know?
