A virus is directly destructive, i.e., it will alter code, delete stuff,
modfiy operating system pieces etc. A worm on the other hand does none of
this but 'worms' it's way around while reproducing itself constantly. The
worm does the damage by eventually reaching such numbers that it can
eventually bring whole networks to a grinding halt. In the present case
there are already reports of peoples PC's slowing down. In the 1980 such a
worm brought the whole Internet to a halt for several hours.
