Workhouses have been formally closed though the building may be in use
as a geriatric hopital.
It was not a 'maternity home' in the normal sense -they didn't have
them. Girls having babies without banafit of clergy were pushed into
the workhouse if they lacked any family or other support. There may be
details in surviving workhouse records -if so, theyb are at the London
Mtropolitan Archives, 40 Northampton Rd London EC1
