Subject: LIVERY STABLE KEEPER
Date: Wed, 01 Mar 2000 15:01:08 EST
Hi to all on the list,
This is my first request for the list so I'm hoping that someone can give me
a lead.
My GGG grandmother's death certificate of 1851 lists her father as a livery
stable keeper. As she was christened in 1805 at St Andrew's, Holborn, I
would assume that her father was working in this area at least at this time.
My question is, would there be some type of records kept for people in this
profession at about that time?
As a livery stable keeper, does that mean he was in the employ of someone or
would he have owned the business himself?
Were these businesses attached to an inn, tavern or something of the kind
and if so are there any ideas as to how I could discover which one he was
associated with?
Hope that's not too many requests all at once but any leads or even general
information on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou all in advance,
Colleen
