Hi Barbara,
I found some of my "difficult" forebears by picking an unusual forename in
the family, with year of birth, and no surname entered. You can do this on
the regional discs, and you probably know in which region you expect to find
your ISAACS so that is the one to start with. The "I" could misread as a
"J", with the rest of it just looking like a jumble of vowels, if the
enumerator wrote badly or the page well faded.
Hope that helps.

Any suggestions on how I can use a wild card for ISAACS? Can't find my
family
anywhere on the 1881.
Kind regards,
Barbara.
