Hello Pat:
I had a lookup done by the Law Society free-of-charge about seven years
ago. However, when the inquiring list-member followed up on that
information and contacted the Law Society they were informed that
searches were done only for an hourly charge which (please don't take
this as fact as it is only from a vague memory) I seem to remember was in
the neighborhood of $50..00 (American) per hour. Someone else then wrote
with the comment that they too had been quoted what they considered an
extremely high price per hour for the research. With that said I can
tell you that the information I received from that good organization did
provide the name of my 3x gt. grandfather so I guess it would have been
well worth it if I had paid for it. A subsequent search for that same 3x
gt. grandfather (done about 6 mos. later and also carried out free)
produced no further information whatsoever. So I guess it is again one
of those gambles that we take in carrying on this wonderful hobby of
ours. Good luck and happy searching.
