apprentice to pianoforte...
MAKER would make sense, so maybe this is a female piano manufacturer
(widow inheriting?)
Being apprenticed to a pianoforte TEACHER would be odd. Only after a
student had learnt the skills and progressed through the grades of the
Royal College of Music would he/she be qualified to teach, and this was
not usually an apprenticeship thing. Maybe Mrs piano lady had taken in
an orphan with a view to bringing him/her up as a successor
