I apologize for sending this response through the London and Middlesex Co.
Lists but my answer to the enquirer has bounced back to me three time. I
am hoping that he is a member of one or both lists so that he will receive
this response.

To: Michael Watson () -

Thank you for your enquiry about the WATSON surname in Shoretditch (1800 -
1900)

I am afraid that I have some bad news that I must share with you. I spent
some time researching the WATSON surname in my own family background before
I obtained a marriage certificate for my grandfather's brother. When the
certificate arrived at my home, I was shocked beyond belief to find out
that the bride's surname was NOT "WATSON" but instead the bride's surname
was listed as BATSON. Other further research findings also verify this
BATSON surname in my background. I have since then asked that the WATSON
surname be removed from the London and Middlesex Surname lists as a
specific interest for me.

Strangely enough, many of the places that you list in your e-mail message
are the very same districts where my grandfather's brother JOHN WILLIAM
TAVERNER and his wife HENRIETTA HARRIET (BATSON) TAVERNER lived also in the
1880's and 1890's
- namely Hoxton, Hackney and Shoreditch. HENRIETTA HARRIET BATSON was born
in Kingsland around 1864. My gr.grandfather JOHN GERNON TAVERNER died in
Tottenham in 1899 and he was buried in nearby St. Patrick's R.C. Cemetery.

Good luck on your research for the WATSON name in Hoxton, Kingsland,
Shoreditch, Hackney and Tottenham. Thank you for the batch numbers for
those districts - they may very well come in handy when I check them for
BATSON information! Perhaps someone else on the London or Middlesex Lists
will recognize your particular interest in the WATSON surname......

Best Wishes -
