I would have expected that this was a condition of their having the
Indexes. And, as far as is known, LDS do not have copies of the actual
registers of information, held jealously by ONS and GRO Scotland. I
cannot imagine that they would permit the undercutting of their
expensive certificate providing services. There is no service in the
UK for cheap copies of GRO/GROS certificates.
I believe that in America, the LDS may offer a service for ordering
ordinary certificates from England or Scotland, possibly only for their
members, possibly in general. I understand that a few of the larger LDS
centres might offer a certificate ordering service (Cheltenham used to)
for patrons. It may depend on the availability of volunteers at the
time.

This is the situation as I have always understood it.
