You'll probably be inundated but maybe you're not aware of the following...

The first European to discover Tasmania was the Dutch navigator Abel Tasman,
who on arriving in 1642 called it Van Dieman's Land after the governor of
the Dutch East Indies.

Van Dieman's Land achieved such a terrible reputation that in 1856 the new
self-governing body changed it's name to Tasmania to purge itself of the
past.
