Jo(si) raises a valid point re the incidence of deafness in Victorian society. Just look
at all those 8,9,10-children families. Now consider the hard-of-hearing wife. When in the
marital bed, the husband says, "Do you want to go to sleep, or what?" The (deaf) wife
Hence all those kids.
(And *I* don't even have the excuse of sherry)
