Returning marriage certs when divorced?! My ex submitted mine to the
court for purposes of the court case - BUT I then had to buy another one
to prove my name change (from maiden name) when changing the address on
my driving licence - even though I had had a full licence for 25 years -

Hello Dian!
That made me giggle! Yes, the registrar was a little neurotic, I made it
right at last minute before they closed for 12 month deadline - she
insisted
my daughter's name was Deborah and NOT Debbie as I kept insisting. she
was
really nasty but yes - definitely torn out as I asked her why and she
yelled
at me about how I was the one changing her name etc etc. she reminded me
of
my old headmistress.....She told me that once I'd changed my daughter's
name
from my then maiden name to my now married name, that was IT!
(Unless it was my original certificate that she ripped up?)
Will phone Exeter later to find out. I was under the impression, or
hoping,
that copies of original were made to send to main GRO.
My mother-in-law told me that she had to rturn her marriage cert to be
destroyed when she was divorced. I can't remember that happening to me
but
can't find my wedd cert either...but I know what I MIGHT have done with
it......
