From personal experience of searching 1901, I too had found the gender to be
unreliable. Another MUST if you fail in your search, is to put the surname
in the "first name" box & vice versa. Place names....... have found West
Bermwich (Bromwich), Foldingbridge, Hants (Fordingbridge, St Gampson's
(Sampson's). Counties seem to be unreliable ie Winchester Herts and the
like.
These thoughts are meant to be helpful to those who are having trouble
searching...............not that any of them have helped find my
Grandmother.
