Thanks to all for the replies to my names queries. Am planning on a visit to
Trowbridge any time now to find the parents of my Jonah Moody.

Cheers

Linda

I thought Lemuel but I can see folks with the Lemual spelling in google
I looked at behind the name and they only had one spelling
LEMUEL m Biblical
Means "belonging to God" in Hebrew. This was the name of a king in the Old
Testament. It was also the first name of the hero of Jonathan Swift's novel
'Gulliver's Travels'.

And these are from a Bible dictionary
LEMUEL (Lehm' ew ehl) Personal name meaning "devoted to God." A king who
received words of wisdom from his mother concerning wine, women, and the
legal rights of the weak and poor (Prov. 31:1-9). Exactly where his kingdom
of Massa was is not known, although certain linguistic features in the text
have led scholars to place it in north Arabia, possibly near Edom. This
section of Proverbs apparently comes from a non-Israelite woman.
JONAH (Joh' nuh) Personal name meaning, "dove" and name of book of Bible
preserving story of a part of prophet's ministry. The Book of Jonah is
unique among the Minor Prophets in consisting of a short story about a
prophet and in confining his message to a sentence (3:4).
Jonah is a more well known Bible person

Who used. Could be Strong Bible believing folks I suppose. Of course Lemuel
could come from reading Gulliver and Jonah seemed to be reasonably popular
in bygone days.

I have a possible match between my Jonah Moody and a Lemual Moody. The first
names have a biblical ring to them and I wonder if anyone could advise on
this. What religious backgound would a family have when giving their
children names like this?

Hope to hear

Linda
