Hi Paul and Penny
There is an area in Bermondsey called Leather Market.In the 1800s the area
surrounding this had many tanneries and as you read the census there were
many tannery workers in this area and in the areas such as Bermondsey.and
the neighbouring areas of Southwark and Walworth.
These workers came in various occupations tanners, skinners, dyers etc.
