This may sound daft, but the easiest way is to email the data to yourself
from the old computer as an attachment, then pick the e-mail up on the new
computer. It may take a while, depending on the speed of your modem and the
size of the file, but the e-mail software will take care of the file
integrity and encoding, and the phone call cost is going to be less than the
cost of any other method I can think of. This is how I deal with backups,
when I can't be bothered with a CD burn incidentally - I just mail the data
to myself at work.
There are other ways, including use of PC-Anywhere style packages - MSDOS
used to have this sort of thing built in but I haven't used it for years and
don't know if it still exists over windows, and there may be freeware
available if you hunt around for file transfer at www.google.com. These
transfer using a modified (for crossover) serial or parallel cable - if you
don't know what these are already you're probably best avoiding this route.
Cheers
Tim

Subject: [Lon] Master Genealogist Silver Edition CD question
Hi,
Can anyone tell me simply, how to transfer my family tree information from
the Master Genealogist Silver Edition programme to floppy as my computer is
now outdated, doesn't have a CD rewriter and I have bought a new computer
which I want to transfer it to.
The manual is to confusing, and I dont want to lose 25 years of research.
Regards
Neil
