Subject: [Lon] Clandestine marriages

Thanks to Brian for his suggestions. I found information on these marriages up to the late 1700's, however I am more interested in the time 1877 to 1910 .
I guess if a man wanted to pretend he was marrying the woman it could be done, and if he was married by someone being paid in an under-hand way,ie no questions asked, there would be no official record of this wedding.
I cannot find my great grandparents marriage, and wondered if it is possible that it was missed in the transcribing from county to central office. If this was the case, would it be findable at the local county records offices as opposed to the St Caths Indexes.
Is there any other place to look?
He probably didn't marry three of his supposed 'wives'!!
