Probably not a lot, since quite a number of people were caught by this
legal problem.
One thing strikes me. Margaret Thatcher (now Baroness) was the
daughter of an Alfred Roberts, grocer and Alderman of the town of
Grantham, Lincolnshire. He won't be quite old enough, sadly,
But could he have had an uncle?? The family earlier came from
Northampton.
(There is always the chance, of course, that yer man was an Alfred but
not a Roberts, just took the name.)
