I have just worked through a large number of extractions from the 1901
index marking off household groups and have found that in 90% or more of
the cases where a family / household seems to go across two pages, there
seems to be a person missing (ie non-consecutive person IDs) between the
two pages. I have now become convinced that it was done on purpose and
probably at the bottom of every page.

It could be that lines were numbered & most pages have a lower blank
line or perhaps it was done in case a person was missed out on that page
& correcting such an error would only require part of a page to be
reworked after the missed person was given a number.

It is too consistent and it would be too improbable to ascribe the
missing numbers between pages to an out of order person with a different
surname.

Hi
If you've sorted by Person ID by 'Sort Ascending' the numbers running
consecutively are of the same household. Below is a very good example
of
what you may find and need to interpret:- [explanation follows table]
Name Age "Where Born" "Administrative County" Civil Parish Occupation
PageID
PersonID
-
------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
- --------------------------------James Marshall 33 London Westminster
Kent Penge Newsagent 93942 2443752
Ellen Marshall 28 London Soho Kent Penge
93942 2443753
James Marshall 8 Surrey Penge Kent Penge
93942 2443754
Ellen Marshall 5 Surrey Penge Kent Penge
93943 2443756
Elsie Marshall 3 Surrey Penge Kent Penge
93943 2443757
Ernest Marshall 1 Surrey Penge Kent Penge
93943 2443758
-
------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
- -------------------------------- You will note that there are two page
numbers for the same group -just a turn of the page but obviously from
'Where Born' [Surrey, Penge] and 'Person ID' [2443754, 2443756 &
2443757]
these are ALL the same household.
What?
-Oh you mean 2443755 is missing!
-Well, 2443755 is obviously at the same address but does not have the
same
surname
i.e. is a visitor or a servant.
Hope that helps
Alec
