You can ask the GRO to search for you; have a look at
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/registration/certificates.asp
As long as her name is not too common you should be successful.
Alternatively you can search the indexes at 1837online or on fiche in
major libraries, to try to locate the correct reference; with this, you
still have to order from the GRO but it is cheaper :-) Ordering direct
from the local registrar, if you can confirm who to contact, may be
problematic.
If you post her name (and maiden name) Listers with credit on the
1837online site may be able to help to find the reference.
