On the 1881 census I have a 28 year old James Smith living in London
Middlesex as a servant of Walter Crane who is a painter designer . My
ancestor James Smith was later a painter decorator and the right age to
be this James Smith.
Could SKS take on the task of looking

James Smith (probably James F. Smith ) age 18 on 1871 census ,probably
born ,London ,Brentford , Holborn , He gives all as places of birth on
different census and documents.

i don't have any idea of his parents names since I've yet to find his
birth registration.
