Subject: Unknown letters & Mcert Query
Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 19:02:21 EDT

Hello List ,
I have come across a set of unknown "letters or initials " on an Mcert
i received this week from Mile End Old Town dated 1887 .
The groom concerned Charles Albert Rowohld is known to have been a son
of German migrants to London in the 1850's - although he himself was bn &
brought up in the Whitechapel / Stepney areas .
Under his name appears 3 capital letters each with a full stop
between - but unfortunately the writing on the cert is pretty bad . I can
only be certain that the second letter is a " B" and my best guess is that
the first letter could be a " J" or an " I" and the third looks
like either an "R"
or a " K " .
These same initials are also present under the name of the groom's father -
Henry Rowohld .
I wonder if anyone might recognise these letters or what this might refer
to
as i wonder if it is some reference to the men's " foreign " links but i
do know that Charles Albert had already "anglified " his christian name
as he was christened Claus Albert ?
Any help or advice much appreciated ,
Kind Regards
Nancy Dowling
