Starnge place to find one - jappanners lacquered furniture, trays, boxes
etc with hard highly finished shellac, usually black and gold, sometimes
red and gold.
Unless they went in for very fancy shell cases, or he was finishing
rockets to keep them waterproof in sea or bad weather conditions, I
can't imagine. You are sure he wasn't next door to a gunpowder factory?
