Two women in one of my families were named "Minna" - pronounced as in
'minnow'.
My understanding is that a double consonant after the vowel usually makes it
a short "i", whereas a single consonant after the vowel would make it a long
"i". So if it was an English name, I would expect "Mina" to be pronounced
Myna. But if your Mina's name was of foreign origin, it could have been
'meena' in the way that Lina is pronounced 'leena' in some continental
countries.
Regards,
Imogen

Subject: [Lon] Mina ... pronunciation
Hello again,
In my London ancestry and farther down the line there are women with the
given name of "Mina".
I have always assumed the pronunciation to be with a short " i " as in
minnow or minute.
