As you know the date of birth, if you can find the place of registration
from the GRO indexes you should be able to get the certificate from the
relevant Register Office. In your letter to them, with your cheque for £7
payable to The Superintendent Registrar, simply quote the date of birth and
full name of the person whose birth certificate you want, and their mother's
name. Do NOT quote the GRO references - they are of no use to the local
Register Office and may cause them to reject your application with a
suggestion you apply to GRO.
