Just as a matter of interest, how would one go about finding out whether
one's family has a coat of arms or not?

There was a firm operating out of the main terminal of Heathrow for at least
ten years. The dodge could have been that they wanted the customer to point
out which of quite a few choices was his or hers. They had a heraldry book
with the names, and for each name there could easily be six Arms.
