Hi Martin
What Rootsweb WorldConnect tells you is that there are three other people
who are interested in this marriage and they all believe it took place on
that date. It may be that all three of them have found an actual record of
this marriage, or it may be that one or more has either found it or has
reason to believe it exists (through secondary sources) and the others have
simply copied it. It would be a good idea to try and contact all three
individuals who have submitted this information, in the hope that one of
them may be able to point you in the direction of the primary source. By
1910 all legal marriages were "publicly registered". Quaker marriages
(along with Jewish marriages and unlike other non-CofE marriages) were
accepted as legal without the presence of a registrar, mainly because
Quakers were renowned for the punctiliousness of their record-keeping.
There is however, no doubt that some BMD events got lost in the system, so
you might want to consider checking the original Quaker records.
www.quaker.org.uk will give you more information.
Hope this helps
Caroline

Thanks on list to a kind lister, Anne, who searched for and was unable
to find the marriage of Ernest William SAWDON and Margaret FOX, between
July 1910 and June 1911. According to Rootsweb WorldConnect the record
states that the marriage took place on August 30, 1910, but does not
state where.
As they were Quakers, is it possible that they were married in a private
religious ceremony that was not publicly registered? Though Margaret
was apparently listed in London, St. Pancras, in the 1901 census, which
may be near where she was married, they could also conceivably been
married in a foreign country. Ernest and Margaret are also reported to
have written a book "Stories of Friends beyond the Seas" published in
London in 1916. They were later missionaries to China returning in the
early days of WW II.
Does anyone have any insights that might help unravel this mystery?
