Hi Caroline and all:
I have in fact contacted two of the other researchers who responded last
year as follows: One said he got the data from the other's web site,
which I have visited again today and see he does not have the place of
the marriage; the other told me he had no more information he could give
me. I have not so far contacted the third individual, who may have the
relevant information, so that is my next step. It is quite clear,
thanks to the lookup help I've received in addition to searching the
images as well as the FreeBMD database, that there is no trace of this
marriage on the official records for all four quarters of 1910 and the
first two of 1911.
The Quaker site gives very detailed information on the marriage process
and the registrar would certainly have been informed. I am left with
the possibility that the marriage took place somewhere other than
England. If so, I can see no very good way to find out where, as all
the relatives who might have information on that side of my family are dead.
There appears to be no way to check the Quaker records except by a
personal visit, which is out of the question for me. I am a pensioner
and do not have unlimited travel funds. Nor can I afford to pay large
fees to professional researchers or spend a lot of money on certificates
or subscriptions to Ancestry.com etc. I'm not getting rich quick here!
