Subject: [Lon] Looking for a book

Just to emphasise what Caroline said:
>Books entitled "The World Book of [insert surname here]" were/are part of a
long-running scam perpetrated by the late, unlamented Mr Brooks-Baker and an
American company called Halberts.<

The so-called information contained within the book could be culled in
minutes from telephone directories and voting registers on the web.
Most of this information is out of date: people move or die.
The book looks good...nicely presented and so on, but 'bargepole' and 'don't
touch with a' should be your watch-word with anything that offers to give
you 'your' family history or whatever on a plate!

Regards,
Ruth in Brum. (Birmingham, England.)
(Apparently, the central address/store for sending out these dreadful books
was near me in Solihull. There was lots of discussion about them on the
GOONS list recently.)

> We are looking for a book called "The World Book of Corfes", don't know
when it was printed, but the cost was $49.90 Australian, plus postage.
> The flyer we have on the book has a short screed by the Publishing
Director H.B. Brooks-Baker.
