Subject: Tracking Marriage certificates - Farrant/James
Date: Thu, 22 Sep 2005 20:51:36 -0700
Dear List,
I have come up against a brick wall that I would welcome some advice or help on.
I have obtained the birth certificate of a Peter Haden FARRANT (b. 1929 in Pembroke Dock) for whom I am trying to trace ancestors.
Simple Question: I only know the names of his parents.... no idea of their ages or birthplaces... how do I go about tracing theit marriage certificate...? I wouldn't know where to start looking at a records office!!
There names are very distinctive: ALBERT EDWARD HADEN FARRANT and MARTHA ELLEN JAMES so I think their narriage would probably be unique but it is also likely that their wedding took place after 1910 so none of the on-line searchable databases would be of any use...
Albert FARRANT is listed as a Fisherman and at the time of the birth of their son they lived in Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire. I guess it would seem reasonable to start looking at records from this area but going further back I can find no hint of significant Farrant ancestry in the area so I am not convinced the Farrant name was local - although the James surname is much more welsh!
If anyone can provide advice on how best to take this search forward I would very much appreciate it. IF anyone has access to marriage registry information around this time and can do a search I would be over the moon!!
Any help welcome.
Regards
Mark
