Hi Ron:

You should try it some time! My mother cooked goose many times when we
were kids. We've had it here as well, being a rather small family (a
goose doesn't go very far.).

Seriously, though, "blotting one's copybook" seemed to be more
associated with sexual misconduct (e.g. getting a girlfriend pregnant)
than other types and though it might "cook your goose" in some areas, it
generally had less serious consequences.
